I am so honoured and proud to receive Spellemannprisen 2017, the Norwegian Grammy, for my solo album Strimur. The album was released on ta:lik records in the spring of 2017. It contains traditional tunes from Telemark, some tunes I have learned directly from my teacher Einar S. Løndal (1914 - 2006), some I have learned from old archive recordings, and some I have learned from scores in Hardingfeleverket. My good friend and wonderful fiddler Tore Bolstad was the producer of the album, which was recorded, mixed and mastered at Rainbow Studio in Oslo by legendary Jan Erik Kongshaug and Peer Espen Ursfjord. Strimur is a Norwegian dialect word which means rays of light, a good image of how I imagine the perfect hardanger fiddle sound.
So ned dei seg bøygde i heilage vimur,
med kringom dei smøygde seg solrøyk i strimur.
From the poem "So rodde dei fjordan" by Aslaug Vaa.
